Romper

Okay so I literally own 2 pair of shorts, one pair I made by cutting a pair of old denim pants and the other pair I thrifted last year.  I just don’t buy short pants because to be honest I am not absolutely in love with my 40 plus knees…lol.

Rompers are such a huge fashion trend this year and when I stumbled upon this blue and yellow plaid one at the banana republic factory store last month for 19.99, I had to give it a try.

Romper

We took the kids to Chicago a few weeks ago for our yearly family vacation and let me just tell you it was HOT!!!  The weather was perfect for me to try out my new romper.  It was the perfect outfit for our day of sightseeing and shopping.  I paired it with my yellow cardigan and white sneakers for a totally dressed down look.  The romper was the perfect length and the lightweight cotton material was great for the hot summer temps.  With near 100 degree temps, my knees were the last thing I was thinking about.

RomperSo ladies YES, you can wear a romper if you are 40 plus.  There are so many different styles and lengths to choose from.   My suggestion would be to try a few on to see which style is best for your body type and comfort level.    Add a cardigan (long or short) or a denim jacket and vest and your ready for any casual outing.  I was definitely ready to take on Chicago in mine!

I don’t always go into a thrift store with a game plan.  Sometimes I’m just browsing around to see what I can find and sometimes I have a specific mission.  This past Friday my mission was to find red, white and blue clothing to wear for the 4th of July holiday.  The awesome thing about thrifting holiday attire is, I often find items I can wear more than once.  For example, If I purchase a t-shirt with a flag and the year 2017 on it, I probably wouldn’t wear it more than once, well maybe twice since Labor Day will be here before you know it.  But if I take that same 4 – 5 dollars and thrift a solid red t-shirt for let’s say 3 – 4 dollars more than likely I will be wearing that red t-shirt through the remainder of the summer and many more summer’s to come (not to mention layered under a sweater in the colder months).

Side note…I love the American Flag and have nothing at all against t-shirts with our flag on them!!!!

red, white and blue

Well, my trip was very successful.  I left the store with 1 red midi halter dress, 1 pair of denim capri pants, 2 white tank tops (you can never have enough white tank tops, definitely a wardrobe staple), and a white and red checkered sleeveless button down shirt.  My grand total spent was 18.00.

I paired the checkered shirt with one of the white tanks, the denim capri pants and these super cute red and blue wedge sandals that I thrifted back in December.  Well of course I needed to add some blue so I added my navy Gap cardigan.  Perfect outfit for a backyard bbq (I’m thinking the wedges could definitely be substituted for a pair of comfy Keds).

There is nothing more comfortable than a summer sundress.  This red halter dress can definitely be worn all summer long.  Of course I paired it with a cropped denim jacket because I love jean jackets and dress’…lol.  I added the white tank underneath because it is a low cut dress.  My blue statement necklace was the icing on the cake.

So just remember, if you have a limited budget but want a new outfit for the summer holidays, look no further than your local thrift shop!
