Keeping Warm In a New Winter Coat

In the market for a new winter coat?  Well now is the time to stock up on cold weather gear, especially that new coat you have been eyeing all season.  Retailers are making room for spring shipment so that means huge discounts on fall and winter merchandise.  I never purchase outerwear at the beginning of the season.  From experience I know that if I wait until after Christmas coats are 50% off original price plus there is always an additional percentage off on top of that.  So that $200.00 coat I fell in love with back in October will cost anywhere from  $50.00 – $75.00 dollars now.

Things to consider when purchasing a new coat:

  • Do temps tend to stay around the 40 degree mark or do they plummet to the teens where you live?
  • What style do I need (short puffer, long puffer, pea coat, long wool)?
  • How much can I afford to spend?

My suggestion is to have at least two coats in your closet that you can switch out during the fall/winter months.  A lightweight wool coat that you can wear with dress’, slacks or jeans.  And depending on where you live a lightweight to heavy puffer jacket or coat for casual everyday wear.  Another thing to think about is sizing up when it comes to coats.  If you plan to wear heavy sweaters or layer clothing under your coat you want to be comfortable.

Speaking of falling in love with a coat I first saw this puffer jacket in November and knew that I had to have it in this color (electric lemon).  I waited patiently for it to go on sale and let me just tell you, it was worth the wait.  Last week it was on sale for $109.99 with an additional 70% off.  The final price for me was $33.00.  Now that’s what I call a great sale!
