Today is officially a snow day so it’s the perfect opportunity for me to write a blog post….right?? I know that we are only a few days away from the first day of winter, but I couldn’t let fall pass me by without talking about my favorite fall accessory. Scarves are by far my favorite thing to thrift, they are so versatile and always come with a super low price tag.
I keep all my blanket scarves in a large wicker basket and had them stored in a corner in my office. I started cleaning out my office last month for the big conversion (my office will soon be my new walk in closet) and this gave me the opportunity to organize and count them. Let me just say, the scarves outgrew the basket and I now have a huge basket and storage container filled. In my defense I did give several away and donate a few 🙂
Now for the most awesome thing about owning so many blanket scarves, over half where thrifted. I paid any where from 2.00 – 4.00 for them. Late winter and early fall is when I tend to find the most variety. It’s best to look for cotton blend fabrics that you can hand wash with a mild detergent. They are definitely one of the most versatile accessories you can own. You can pair it with a solid sweater to add some color (like I did in this photo), pin it on the side and wear it as a poncho or layer it with your favorite jacket or coat.
So the next time you are thrift shopping be sure to take a few minutes to look through the bin of scarves, you never know what plaid treasure you might find.
