slogan t-shirt

Slogan t-shirts (aka statement tees) have become a closet staple.  They can be found everywhere from major retailers to yes, even thrift and consignment shops.  I feel that the fascination with them is being able to express exactly how you feel without having to say a word (if that makes sense).  For me, it’s a fun way to incorporate what I’m feeling or maybe what I believe in into my wardrobe.  Prices can range anywhere from 10 to 30 dollars.  Weather you pair your favorite slogan tee with jeans or a fancy skirt, you can definitely make the look your own.

One of my Instagram friends tagged me in a giveaway post several weeks ago.  This particular giveaway peaked my interest because it was for a free slogan t-shirt from True + Noble, a faith based online apparel company.   The lady that was sponsoring the giveaway was wearing a t-shirt that stated “Flawless” with the scripture Colossians 1:22 on the back.  I entered the giveaway, tagged as many of my friends that I could, as a result I won (YEAH ME)!

Okay so now I actually go the website to select a t-shirt and WOW…..there were so many awesome t-shirts to choose from.  Long, sleeve, short sleeve, baseball tees (like the one I’m wearing), there was something for everyone.  There are also a variety of slogans to select from with a scripture that coincides with it on the back.   This is what you call slogan t-shirt heaven!

I’m often curious as to how or why a person decides to pursue their passion and or purpose.  I reached out to the owner April Robinson and asked just that:

What was your inspiration for starting a faith based company (and or t-shirt line)?

“It all started one morning while doing my morning devotionals.  I was reading a verse and thought “that would make a cool t-shirt”.  Then another idea came to me within a couple of days and another and another…  I had been searching and asking God for a way to have a bigger impact with my life and felt these ideas were God’s answer.  So, without any training or background in the industry, I decided to start and see where God would take it.”
What is our vision for your company/brand?
“My vision is to have fashionable faith-based apparel line that can be inspirational to both believers and non-believers.  My ultimate goal would be to sell my shirts in mainstream stores like Target (which just so happens to be my favorite retail store), but I’m grateful that his ways and thoughts are HIGHER than mine (Isaiah 55:8-9), so I’ll just have to wait and see what HE has planned for true + noble apparel.}

God is truly awesome and I pray that April’s business will continue to grow and prosper.

Be sure to check out the site.  You know you need a new slogan t-shirt in your life!

blanket scarf

The blanket scarf has become more than just a cold weather accessory.  For the past three fall and winter seasons it has been on the top of the “must have accessory list”.

I’m sure I own anywhere between twenty to thirty scarves, and at least ten of them are blanket scarves.   I figure if an item can keep me warm and totally stylish at the same time, it’s definitely a win win!  Wearing a blanket scarf is a great way to add color to your outfit.  I will admit I am guilty of purchasing one that matches absolutely nothing in my wardrobe.  I then use that as my excuse to buy a new sweater, don’t judge me..lol.  Some of the color combinations are so pretty, I just can’t say NO.  I know you can totally relate to what I’m saying right?

blanket scarf

Friday as we all know is the biggest shopping day of the year.  This is the perfect time to add a blanket scarf to your wardrobe.  And don’t forget the ladies on your Christmas list.  Blanket scarves make wonderful gifts, they are budget friendly.  In case you were wondering, YES, I have thrifted blanket scarves from anywhere to three to five dollars.

The scarf that I am wearing can be found at ilymix.  They have a great variety of colors and prices for every budget.

Below are links to a few of the scarves that will be on sale for Black Friday, most retailers have started their sales online.

Over The Knee BootsBoot season is finally here and a must have is a nice pair of over the knee boots.  Now I must admit when the trend emerged back on the scene last fall I was a little skeptical about purchasing a pair.  I know that not all 40 plus women feel the same, but I don’t think every trend is for me.  The beautiful thing about fashion is you can wear whatever you feel comfortable in, there are really no rules, I just have personal rules for myself.   So, I honestly wasn’t sure if over the knee boots were age appropriate for me.  I know what your thinking, “are you serious”, yes, I’m very serious..lol.  But I quickly realized that just like all fashion trends it’s really all about how you wear them.

Over The Knee Boots

When I first saw these boots it was love at first site.  Since my knee surgery I just have not been able to stay in heels for long periods of time and the older I get comfort is key.  The low heel on these boots satisfy my need for comfort and style.  They are a beautiful shade of grey and have a rustic, broken-in look.  I styled them with leggings and a long cardigan for a casual look.   I took the same leggings, and added a swing dress, leather vest and  this beautiful blue and grey multi-colored scarf (also from soft surroundings) for a more polished (work/office) look.

Over The Knee BootsSoft surroundings is definitely my go to place for quality staples.  I do a lot of thrifting and bargain shopping but I don’t mind investing in items that will last me for years to come.  Honestly over the knee boots are available every fall in almost every shoe store it’s just that some seasons they are more popular.  So even if they are not showcased in every major fashion magazine  next fall, I will definitely be rocking this pair (this is me being hip..lol).

Camouflage

We all know that the camouflage trend has been hanging around for more than a few season’s.  Summer had it’s fair share of camo tanks, t-shirts, shorts and cargo capri pants.  As we transition to cooler temps I am seeing more and more sweaters with the popular green and black print.

I attended the Romancing the Runway Fashion Show last month in St. Charles and it was awesome.  Not only was it a great fashion show but there were some great local vendors and boutiques there showcasing their items.  So I’m enjoying some of the refreshments and great conversation when across the room I spot the most vivid camouflage print I have ever seen.   I love bold and vivid colors so I knew that I had to have this sweater in my life.  I was then introduced to Rachel Frost of Rachel’s Grove Women’s Clothing Store.  Rachel was amazing and she did not hesitate to give me a closer look at this fabulous sweater.

CamouflageOkay, now on to the fabric.  This sweater is an acrylic/nylon/wool blend (only 8% wool) and is soft as a newborn babies blanket.  Now remember I said that the fashion show was last month, September 28th to exact but the temps have been in the mid to upper 80’s for the past 3 weeks so unfortunately I had to wait until it was cool enough to sport this beauty.

Camouflage

As you know I love versatile pieces that I can mix and match with staples I already own.  I can definitely pair this sweater with leggings and boots or a black maxi skirt and heels.

Romper

Okay so I literally own 2 pair of shorts, one pair I made by cutting a pair of old denim pants and the other pair I thrifted last year.  I just don’t buy short pants because to be honest I am not absolutely in love with my 40 plus knees…lol.

Rompers are such a huge fashion trend this year and when I stumbled upon this blue and yellow plaid one at the banana republic factory store last month for 19.99, I had to give it a try.

Romper

We took the kids to Chicago a few weeks ago for our yearly family vacation and let me just tell you it was HOT!!!  The weather was perfect for me to try out my new romper.  It was the perfect outfit for our day of sightseeing and shopping.  I paired it with my yellow cardigan and white sneakers for a totally dressed down look.  The romper was the perfect length and the lightweight cotton material was great for the hot summer temps.  With near 100 degree temps, my knees were the last thing I was thinking about.

RomperSo ladies YES, you can wear a romper if you are 40 plus.  There are so many different styles and lengths to choose from.   My suggestion would be to try a few on to see which style is best for your body type and comfort level.    Add a cardigan (long or short) or a denim jacket and vest and your ready for any casual outing.  I was definitely ready to take on Chicago in mine!
