Boot season is finally here and a must have is a nice pair of over the knee boots. Now I must admit when the trend emerged back on the scene last fall I was a little skeptical about purchasing a pair. I know that not all 40 plus women feel the same, but I don’t think every trend is for me. The beautiful thing about fashion is you can wear whatever you feel comfortable in, there are really no rules, I just have personal rules for myself. So, I honestly wasn’t sure if over the knee boots were age appropriate for me. I know what your thinking, “are you serious”, yes, I’m very serious..lol. But I quickly realized that just like all fashion trends it’s really all about how you wear them.
When I first saw these boots it was love at first site. Since my knee surgery I just have not been able to stay in heels for long periods of time and the older I get comfort is key. The low heel on these boots satisfy my need for comfort and style. They are a beautiful shade of grey and have a rustic, broken-in look. I styled them with leggings and a long cardigan for a casual look. I took the same leggings, and added a swing dress, leather vest and this beautiful blue and grey multi-colored scarf (also from soft surroundings) for a more polished (work/office) look.
Soft surroundings is definitely my go to place for quality staples. I do a lot of thrifting and bargain shopping but I don’t mind investing in items that will last me for years to come. Honestly over the knee boots are available every fall in almost every shoe store it’s just that some seasons they are more popular. So even if they are not showcased in every major fashion magazine next fall, I will definitely be rocking this pair (this is me being hip..lol).

Not only is the color green the pantone color of the year (Greenery to be exact) , it’s slowly becoming one of my favorite colors to wear. I love pairing it with navy or yellow. When I saw this green silk wrap dress at Banana Republic last month, I knew I had to give it a try. It is a little low cut but there is a small button at the top that keeps it from plunging too low. I opted to still wear a tank underneath, just because I didn’t want to chance the button coming undone. Of course I waited for the dress to go on sale and snagged it for 40% off.
It was still a little chilly out when I took these photographs so I threw on my thrifted gap denim jacket. This dress could easily be paired with a cardigan or worn alone. It can be worn to work, out to dinner, church, or even date night, the versatility makes it a great investment.
The leather shoes are also Banana and I picked them up in the dead of winter for 26.00!!! I love finding sandals in the winter, and they are always at least 75-80% off retail price. Another great thing about the color is the endless assortment of shoes you can wear with it. Gold, navy, nude are just a few colors that come to mind.
So by now you know that I’m totally a fan of this green wrap dress and give it two thumbs up!!

The first day of spring and the weather in St. Louis did not disappoint. The high today was 83 degrees! We received some unexpected snow a few weeks ago so needless to say I could not wait for a little sunshine and warmer temps.
Since it has been so cold I have been spending my Saturday’s doing some end of the season shopping. While browsing through one of my favorite stores (a lot of you already know the name of the store without me saying it), I found this skirt. I really liked the pattern but let me just say, once I tried it on I knew it was going home with me. Gingham is definitely one of the top trends this season and I absolutely love the boldness of the print on this skirt, it’s definitely different from the norm.
Now I am not afraid to say that when I enter any store I go straight to the sale racks (this is all a part of me being a smart and frugal shopper). This skirt was not on clearance but it was an additional 40% off which was still a little more than I like to spend. I feel in love with the print and fit so I decided to splurge. Hey, you only live once and besides, it’s okay to treat yourself sometimes 🙂

I have been wanting a pair of leopard booties for quit some time but of course I was not going to pay full price for a pair. I don’t own many credit cards at all, actually only two. One advantage to having them is you usually are the first to know about sales, and I love a great sale. A few weeks ago I received an email from Ann Taylor for and additional 60% off of sale items I went straight to the shoe sale section and found these beauties. The boots were only $42.00 after the discount. I have a $20.00 off reward certificate that I used taking the price down to $22.00. After taxes I paid $25.00 for them! Awesome right????
My black sweater has the cutest button detail down the back so I decided to wear it backwards.
Oh, BTW Happy Valentines Day Everyone!!!!!
